Does your family mind that you spend all your time learning useless languages and talking to fifteen year olds on the internet instead of, like, having a job.

I hope you're aware that you're making fun of a mentally retarded child.

Did you forget some of your English in the process?

German is better to learn. Spanish countries are to swine flu, chagas disease, and intestinal parasites what African countries are to AIDS.

Why not proper spanish?

· scatman (OP) — 11 months ago, 26 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[^] [v] #87,553

@previous (F)
Latin American Spanish is just as Spanish as Spain Spanish.

· Anonymous F11 months ago, 13 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[^] [v] #87,554

@previous (scatman)
No, it isnt.

My question: why does your Spanish still suck?

· scatman (OP) — 11 months ago, 44 minutes later, 16 hours after the original post[^] [v] #87,588

@87,554 (F)
Yes, it kind of is.

@previous (Lynne B. Goldstein)
Why does your French still suck even though it took you ten years to get a French degree?

Because they're different enough that if you live in the Americas, learning European Spanish can cause communication issues. Even Latin Americans sometimes have misunderstandings because of different dialects. It depends on where you're trying to do business.

+ Anonymous H11 months ago, 54 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,789

I went to Spain once. I didn't speak Spanish.

· scatman (OP) — 11 months ago, 1 minute later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,790

@previous (H)
Your loss.

· Anonymous H11 months ago, 1 minute later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,791

@previous (scatman)
Not really. It was awkward but I managed to have what could vaguely be called a conversation with a Spanish guy on a bike.

· scatman (OP) — 11 months ago, 5 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,792

@previous (H)
So you talked with another human being? How did it feel?

(Edited 8 seconds later)

· Anonymous H11 months ago, 4 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,793

@previous (scatman)
Terribly awkward. I know only a few words. He said something about his house and pointed to it. Also asked where I was staying and how long I'd be there.
He mentioned his house a lot.

· scatman (OP) — 11 months ago, 1 minute later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,794

@previous (H)
¿La casa?

· Anonymous H11 months ago, 55 seconds later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,795

@previous (scatman)
Yes. It took a minute to figure out that casa meant house.

+ Anonymous I11 months ago, 31 seconds later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #87,796

@87,793 (H)
He probably wanted to introduce you to his family. And you blew him off like the culturally ignorant American that you are. Give yourself a hand.

Don't let it discourage you at first, getting through the first lessons is the hardest, but if you stick to it, it's smooth sailing.
