I lived in Spain for over a year and travel there on a regular basis for vaction. I think they are for lazy, unproductive peoples whom speak Spanish or Portuguese. Those are my thoughts

In French Louisiana, it is. All civilized people take siestae.
In California, the leafblowers and lawnmowers remain on during a siesta... just so they can keep making added noise.
